Dr. Susa Holt received her ND from Bastyr University in 1985 and her MA in Psychology/Counseling from the Leadership Institue of Seattle (LIOS) at Saybrook University in 2015. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the State of Washington.

I believe that transformation and healing ultimately rests within each of us. Throughout our life, we develp patterns and limiting beliefs that may have been useful in the past, but are no longer serving us in the present. Therapy is a journey toward finding balance and wholeness, and finding ways to disentangle yourself from unwanted ways of thinking. As humans, we are hardwired for connection, love and a felt sense of belonging. The neuroscience of attachment theory has clearly shown us that when we did not experience connection and safety in our early relationships, we often respond with defensive or protective throughts and behaviors. These patterns get activated in future intimate relationships and shape the way we experience and relate to others. The wonderful news is that science has shown us that through psychotherapy and self-awareness, past fears and traumas can be processed and resolved, leading to healthy and meaningful relationships.
Body-oriented somatic psychotherapy, is core to my work as I integrate traditional talk therapy with somatic (body-centered), mindfulness-based approaches. In somatic psychotherapy we mindfully track our felt sensations in breath work, movement, and slowing down to develp a greater understanding and appreciation of how we have organized ourselves around certain beliefs and habits. We carry both our history and the present moment within the body. Our bodies are a gateway to our unconscious feelings and emotions. It is through somatic awareness that we experience transformation, as change happens in the present moment.
Through connection with the body, we begin to bridge the gap between our body and mind, which leads to feeling more inteegrated. We can then come to understand how we organize and regulate ourselves in our different relationship environments. This process is a way of cultivating resilience and the capacity to mvoe through your life able to to repsond in healthy and creative ways, choosing to live the life that you want your yourself.

Susa has worked as a healthcare provider for 25 years in a large local health maintenance organization, as a physician assistant in family practice and women's healthcare. She has also worked a two local integrative medical clinics, where she combined her training in naturopathic and allopathic medicine. She currently continues to express her passion for personal growth and awareness as a faculty member, at The Haven Institute in BC, Canada, where she has led programs for 20 years.
