I believe having a judgment-free and safe space to share, helps foster the path toward healing and change. I view counseling as a collaborative process between counselor and client. Let’s work together as a team to address the areas in your life you may be struggling with. Life can be messy and complicated; my goal as a therapist is to help you navigate those difficult moments and emotions to reach a healthy sense of self and relationships.
In my practice with adults, young adults and teens, I integrate several theoretical styles, tailored to my clients’ needs and goals. This includes utilizing techniques in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). During our initial intake, a range of questions will be asked so I can gain insight into your concerns, needs, and goals. Following that, in our first few sessions, I help my clients set clearly stated goals for our work together as well as identify what is missing to realize those goals. As our work together continues, we partner together, filling in gaps, overcoming barriers and celebrating successes.
My passion for working with teenagers grew during my years as a mental health counselor in the middle school setting. This is such a vulnerable, delicate, and complicated time in one’s life and I have found that for teenagers, having a third party to talk to is greatly beneficial and rewarding. Utilizing CBT with teens helps them work through challenges, such as difficult emotions, identify triggers to uncomfortable feelings and reframe negative thoughts. Equally as important is rapport and trust. Relationship building and being comfortable with one another is key and my goal is to make sure all my clients feel heard, understood, and welcome. Parent involvement is highly encouraged, and we will work together to find a method of communication that is mutually comfortable and agreed upon by all parties.
I recognize taking this first step can be intimidating and even downright scary but thank you for trusting me with your story and I feel honored to work alongside you.
I have over 8 years of experience helping individuals from children through adults and working in a wide variety of settings. My current focus is helping teens, young adults and adults, with a specialized focus on life transitions, self-esteem, anxiety, relationship issues, communication skills, depression, and personal growth.
