My adult counseling and psychotherapy care draws on over 25 years of experience and is focused on building empowerment and long-term positive results. My primary therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. My understanding of the human condition is grounded in the study of psychodynamic and interpersonal theories, which focus on understanding personal development in the context of early primary relationships, the impact of significant relational experiences, and organic strengths and vulnerabilities.
I will start by asking questions to understand your reason for seeking care and desired outcomes, how your difficulty has developed over time, and your relevant history. If it’s important to you, your experience regarding your ethnicity, race, gender identity and sexual orientation will be explored, affirmed and integrated into my understanding of you. I’ll also assess and discuss with you the need for additional or alternative outside care or resources, if applicable. I’ll then provide you with a plan for care, including goals, recommendations for a clinical approach and an estimation of the length of care you might receive.
Through regularly scheduled appointments and your focused efforts outside of our time together, you will gain a clearer understanding of what brought you into care and build skills that facilitate possible new ways of thinking, feeling and doing. Often people can reach their defined goals for care between 10 and 20 sessions as planned. However, sometimes one person may only need a few sessions, and another may need longer care.
